Best Type of Valley?

Post by SubBuilder » Thu Aug 10, 2017 11:16 pm

So...
Opinions out there about the best type of roofing valley are all over the map.
That's understandable for the best LOOKING.

What's less fathomable is the disagreement over the most water resistant.
Some say woven is best and open is worst.
Others say open is best and woven is worst.

Why do you think there's so much disagreement?

Opinions are generally based on experience and preferences which have little to do with actual real world value.

Personally, I like woven valleys because they are seamless, but, you cannot weave all roofing products, so that leaves flashing or cut valleys, of the two, I'd rather see a cut valley than flashing, just because it looks so much better. The reality is, when properly done, it doesn't matter what kind of valley is done, they are all equally waterproof, it then boils down to personal preference of one type over another.

The analogy of Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge comes to mind, in reality, they all utter crap, but to the die hard fans, only their brand preference is the one that matters. Of course, we all know that Chevy is supreme, so we'll end the discussion there. :P

Spruce, that's probably it.

Hey,
For a closed-cut valley with an ice & water barrier, is it overkill to put valley flashing under the shingles ?

You don't need metal flashing under a closed valley.
