Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

Oh I like a cold toilet seat, just as I like sitting on a cold chair.

For some reason sitting in a seat or chair that someone's just sat seconds before grosses me out. Lol

As for the avatars, well you've left me speechless!

Another problem with modern consoles is downloadable content, I'd rather buy game disks than D/L content via a paid subscription.

Since there is only one game per platform that has ever interested me, sounds like a better plan is to simply set up a PC with emulators for all the consoles. No hacking necessary, unless you consider emulators hacking!
Yeah, agreed, that's probably the way to go.

Re: M16 pot light conversion to LED

It's not. The bulbs he took out were 12V.

It's what I feared, he'd have to cut out drywall. And with a textured ceiling? That would be hard to hide.

Honestly, though, I am a big fan of the bright glow of halogen bulbs. They put out a very nice warm but intensely bright light.

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

The original Xbox is very old. I had a second-hand one for a short time so I could hack it to install a bigger hard drive with a catalog of games, removing the requirement for loading one game per disc. After I successfully did the hack I lost interest and gave it away. Interestingly, old Xbox is ju...

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

I've had an NES, SNES, N64, and Wii. The NES had the most "magic", SNES wowed me the most with video and sound, and the Wii was just plain fun and entertaining many many years after the N64, which was a too-little too-late followup to SNES and made me lose interest in consoles in general until the W...

Re: M16 pot light conversion to LED

Yikes... so the wires that come into the can just goes through a grommet in the housing that is up above in the drywall of the ceiling through the can hole? If so, that would mean that the 120V connection might reside outside of the housing. In that case, you'd need to cut away ceiling drywall to ac...

Re: M16 pot light conversion to LED

I agree that is an IC can so it wont come through the hole at all. Why two sets of wires? Whats on the ends? Looking at that pic with the two sets of wires more carefully, it looks like there's a box shroud in the joist cavity. You can sort of see it through the hole in the drywall. You covered tha...

Re: Furnace heat exchanger requires replacement - disconnected it!

I think one of the symptoms of a failing heat exchanger is the release of higher PPMs of carbon monoxide. If you have a meter, or perhaps even a CO detector, it can be tool that might corroborate your initial tech's findings. But residential heating/cooking companies do have a bad rep for suggesting...

Re: M16 pot light conversion to LED

There's a metal box still up there? I shouldn't be attached to anything; you should be able to pull it through the hole. You basically need access to 120V, regardless of what lighting you go with. Those red/blue wires make be suspicious you have a transformer of some sort up there. The sticker says ...

Re: Dryer outlet - Not used

I've never worked on a trailer with 50A service, but I think they have all 120V loads ... mainly so that if you are at a park with only 30A 120V service, you can use an adapter and still use 1 of the AC units. My mom and her husband used to have a double-wide, that one had the NEMA 14-50 plugin. I ...

Re: M16 pot light conversion to LED

Do you know for sure those lights each have a transformer? You can test with a volt-ohm meter to see what voltage exists at the MR16 socket. Also if you look at the former bulbs take out, the markings on them may indicate whether they're low voltage or not. If you have 120V then you could just splic...

Yes. As it turns out you only needed three conductors after all with that TT-30 type receptacle.

When I need to, I like to put little caps at the end of unused conductors. Like the little blue ones. For #10 you may need an orange.

Re: M16 pot light conversion to LED

Looks like your existing fixture takes MR16-type halogen bulbs. This may be a low-voltage fixture! If that's the case the transformer is somewhere--perhaps above the fixture housing itself where the wiring would be. If so, you cannot use that kit above, because that is a retrofit for a 120V fixture....
