Re: Fishing wire to electrical outlet from a light switch

Good to know that nails through an electrical box are normal. The guides I've seen these days though seem to prefer fastening the boxes on the outside.

Yep, sawzall off the mounting nails between the box and stud and take the box out.
Run your new wire, then install an old work box.
Thanks. I guess to make things easier in the future, would it make sense to open all the ports in electrical boxes as you're installing them?

Fishing wire to electrical outlet from a light switch

I'm trying to add an outlet below a light switch, but I'm not sure how I would fish the wire through. The right cable clamped hole in the back is closed so I can't push wire down there. Is there a way to open those holes with the box in already in the wall? Would I need to remove the box? As an asid...

Canadian supplier of Carlon Zip Boxes

I'm looking for a competitive Canadian supplier of the blue plastic electrical boxes the Americans use. Home Depot and Lowes USA have them, but for some reason their Canadian counterparts don't. https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-Gang-14-cu-in-Old-Work-Box-B114RB/100404027 I found that Newark Canada sell...

It sounds like the vents are either rubbing against themselves or whatever they're connected to. Unfortunately I have finished drywall ceilings in my basement, so I can't access them easi...

When to use an Auger style bit?

Hi,

I'm looking into drilling holes from some rooms into the attic to fish network wire through. There are two types of bits I found, but I'm not sure which one to use. The walls have insulation.

finishing a basement floor with a floor drain

Hi, My basement has a floor drain where I'd like to place finished floor. I want to place ceramic tiles as the finished floor. What kind of things do I need to think about when placing a floor above a drain? Should I build a door or some other way of accessing the drain once the floor is installed? ...
