Re: Floor Tile installation in 2-3 days

Ok I have more info from the company. They recommend to shim the scrap tile (cardboard/wedges,scrap wood) for big tiles. It would prevent sagging when the thinset cure. Below is my question to them: "Thank you for the link. I know his channel, but didnt see this video in particular. Sal DiBlasi is T...

Re: Floor Tile installation in 2-3 days

Thank you for the tip!
The scrap piece of tile for the last tile is a great idea.
Should I need to shim just a bit to simulate the absence of thinset for that scrap piece of tile?

Thanks again!

Floor Tile installation in 2-3 days

We are currently renovating the floor house entrance that is shared with the guest bathroom (which is linked by one door). Our tiles are 24 x 24 with 1/16th grout line. We are using Perfect Level Master (T-Locks) for the leveling. The way the two rooms are, it is very hard to tile the complete floor...

Re: Rim Joist Insulation With Different Method Using Rigid Board

Nice Job! That's what I am planning to do! I've heard that the duct work that are in touch with the roxul at the rim joist must be super well sealed in order not to suck and blow roxul fibre in the duck work of the house. Is that true? Considering that the MSDS of Roxul state that any repeated expos...

Re: Rim Joist Insulation With Different Method Using Rigid Board

Yes I will cover with Drywall for the wall and ceiling, so they will be covered. So for the wall its gonna be one layer of 2in foam + roxul bat between the studs + NO VAPOR BARRIOR + drywall. (I dont need vapor barriour since my foam is 2 in right?) As for the rim joist, you suggest Option C, which ...

Rim Joist Insulation With Different Method Using Rigid Board

Hello, What is the reccomended method between Option "A" or Option "B" when using 2 in XPS (pink board). Can the uncovered section of the sill plate be uncovered as shown in Option "A"? Or I need to cover the sill plate as shown in Option "B"? Is Option "C" the best method if I want to achieve R20 v...

Re: Basement insulation (Roxul + smart membrane)

Thank you Shannon, Last question; knowing what we know now, would you use the smart membrane as vapor barrier? I have established that I will put a moisture barrier, either a 6 mil poly or house wrap ( I will decide later). Now the question is if the smart membrane as vapor barrier will do any benef...

Re: Basement insulation (Roxul + smart membrane)

Lowes.ca currently sell them at 179$ for 8ft x 100ft roll. About the half bottom poly and half top smart membrane: i read this article on a builder in Ontario called Doug Tarry who did this experiment (but if money is not a problem, you can put all the wall with the smart membrane). Here are the art...

Re: Basement insulation (Roxul + smart membrane)

From what I have read, this smart membrane will act as a normal vapor barrier in winter but in summer it will let the moisture buildup escape the cavity. This is one of the reason they do not put moisture barrier at the concrete wall. They let the moisture come through the concrete and escape throug...

I keep seeing a lot of different approaches and I am interested in these 2 in particular: Option #1 Concrete wall No moisture barrier Roxul Batt between stud (0.5 inch gap between roxul and concrete wall) 6 mil Po...
