Water supply line

As I am tackling little project by little project in my house, I am now finding myself having to work with my water lines and this has thrown me for a loop. I have a little bit of copper, a very small bit of PEX but the vast majority of it is this. I have been told its "Quest" or "Polybutelene" in g...

Clear roof vents

I was wondering if you guys know of a decent way for a guy to clear plumbing vents. I have full reason to believe I have one or two that are clogged, as some plumbing fixtures in the house have slow drains, with a "suction" sound as they begin to clear. Toilet often clogs and gurgles. I have thought...

Those look pretty cool! Would you have any concern with direct contact with Insulation?

That Reddit is an interesting discussion of wrapping tape around devices. I used to do that, but do not any longer. Regardless of box material (plastic or steel).
Aaron - why have you stopped wrapping tape?

Lighting above Shower / Tub

Hi all, I am slowly in the process of doing a small remodel of my bathroom. One of the things that the wife and I thought would be nice is to add a light or two above the shower / tub. (Ceiling mounted) I know it obviously can be done as I have seen the finished product countless times. Other than m...

Re: GFCI /AFCI outlet

Would I need AFCI? Or will GFCI suffice. Yes, it will be approx 3 ft from a water source.

At this point the breaker at the breaker panel is neither AFCI nor GFCI.

GFCI /AFCI outlet

So I am slowly updating many receptacles in my house, I am adding a receptacle in a utility room, which I understand NEC would require a GFCI /AFCI given its proximity to water sources. I eventually will be replacing my breaker panel, and at that time I will have GFCI / AFCI breakers. My question be...

Counter top paint

I have been toying with the idea of using a countertop paint to give my bathroom vanity a new look. I have intention on replacing it in 5-10 years, but I would like to give it a new look for a while. I came across a countertop paint, and although I'm sure I've been living under a rock, I hadn't hear...

Anode rod replacement question

Hi, I enjoyed the video on the anode rod replacement. I had a question... when looking for replacement, are they all generic? Or will any Anode rod fit any water heater (besides the length issue that was addressed in the video)? Also, does it matter if it is aluminum or magnesium, or any other alloy...

Re: Gaining Attic Access

If I go through the wall like that, what obstacles should I anticipate encountering? Or should it be as straight forward as taking my sawzall and going to town and slip in a prehung knee wall door? What Would you guys expect to encounter? I'm trying to reduce surprises and therefore minimize the dea...

Re: Gaining Attic Access

Would it be possible or practical to do an opening in the wall inside? Something similar to what you discussed with the garage access, only from the house interior? My garage is not aligned with the house to allow for the garage access.

Gaining Attic Access

Hi guys, I was hoping I could get some advice on trying to do something. I've been slowly tackling project by project around the house I recently bought. Changing light fixtures, running new light switches, new outlets here and there, etc. I have plans for running Ethernet cable, adding light fixtur...

Lighting in basement

I am trying to add lighting in my unfinished basement. Nothing fancy, just the good ol cheap white porcelain lights that have a pull chain (but I will use a switch to control current). My question is, how do I bring my Romex cable along I-Beams like I have in the picture? Do I have to run it inside ...

Removing bathroom

I have a small bathroom that I am wanting to get rid of. I am wanting to know how to go about permanently sealing off the toilet hole to the sewer line. I see a lot of YouTube videos telling me how to plug it temporarily for replacing the toilet. But nothing for how to block it off to remove the toi...

14 gauge to 12 gauge

I am going through and putting new outlet receptacles, switches, etc around my house. I note that much of the wire going to these are 14 gauge. Will I run into issues connecting 12 gauge wire with 14 gauge if I wanted to say, add an outlet a few feet away? Like with 14 gauge existing in home, can I ...

Re: Unknown Ceiling Type

Thank you for the replies.

I found an area in the House that is in need of some TLC, and it shows it as it is coming off above a dropped ceiling.

A friend mentioned it may be a cork board ... but I figured I'd ask experts!

Maybe this may help in identification.

Thanks again, you guys are great!

Unknown Ceiling Type

Hello - Thank you for this board, I am finding a lot of great information! I recently bought my home, and am starting to do minor improvements to it. One thing I am encountering is I have this type of ceiling throughout the home (Pictures will be attached - apologies they appear 'sideways'), but I h...
