Re: Window Installation

Thanks for the response!

If the windows are properly flashed prior to installing the PVC board trim (as you would if there wasn't any comfortboard being installed) would I even need to seal between the window and PVC trim?

Window Installation

Hi Shannon, I'm planning to install 1.5" Comfortboard Rockwool insulation over my sheathing & housewrap. When installing the windows and doors, I see 2 methods of finishing; Nailing flange to the sheathing and trimming the windows out with PVC board, or spacing the window out with 2-by (bucking?). I...

Roof Rafter Framing

Hi, I'm building an add-on 8x16 mudrood/entryway with a shed-style 4/12 pitch roof abutted to the existing exterior wall. Cement piers are in, floor and walls are up. Next step is to frame the roof. The existing house is 1.5 story, balloon-style framing, that had been lifted and a cement foundation ...

Treated wood

Hi,
I’m planning to build a small add-on mudroom/entryway (insulated, heated, finished, etc.) by concrete pier and beam method. Should my beam and/or floor joists be treated? I’m in a wet and snowy region.

Thanks

Concrete mixes

I have access to loads of blasting abrasive “silica sand”. Can I use this as an aggregate, along with 1” clear gravel, in a concrete mix for a frost wall? Is it beneficial or detrimental to strength and durability over regular cement sand? I was thinking a 3:2:1 mix.

Thanks!

Re: Foundation Waterproofing

Thanks Shannon,

The contractor bailed on me anyway, so it looks like I'm just going to backfill the trench and attack it again next summer. Bummer.

Foundation Waterproofing

Hey, So I want to finish my basement and need to waterproof the poured-cement foundation walls. This summer I dug out the foundation and removed my 'Big-O' drain pipe (which was partially collapsed and full of silt) and starting prepping the walls for installation of IKO Aquabarrier FP membrane and ...
