Well, the final decision while framing the deck today was just to leave the decorative cut off the beam. It is fairly low to the ground so not really noticeable anyways. I thought about it, but decided to forgo the cut. Thanks again for the advice!

Yeah, the only reference I can find is that it is a decorative cut. If I decide to do that I would follow the guidance you suggested. Just don't want to do something like that and have the inspector take exception to it.

Deck Beam Angle Cut

On deck beams, I usually see the bottom outside corner cut off. I assume it is for safety as much as aesthetics. I have attached a picture to show what I'm talking about. That said, I cannot find any guidance on making that cut in the codes or prescriptive guide to building decks. Is there any guida...
