Re: Lowering ceiling by 1.5"

I'm trying to decide if a 2x3 is better than a 2x2 to screw to the ceiling joists for attaching drywall to.

Any video link for the metal grid cross members?

Lowering ceiling by 1.5"

I have to lower by basement ceiling by 1.5" to clear duct work and be able to attach dry wall to it. I am thinking of attaching 2x2 or 2x3 wood studs perpendicular to the ceiling joists every 16" (using 3" construction screws). Are there any advantages or disadvantages of going with the 2x3s instead...

Re: Basement framing around finished window

Hi Shannon, not sure what you mean by the groove? All the sides of the window look like the window1 picture (which shows the top of the window) that I have above. I have this window on the window well (see pictures - window1 & window2) that's already finished and flush with the concrete wall ( i.e., there is no room for drywall to be attached to the window frame). How do I frame around this window (I don't want to re...

Re: Attaching drywall to metal soffit

Thanks Shannon. Someone told me that tracks are not meant for that purpose and that I should design such that drywall only attaches to the side of a stud.

Attaching drywall to metal soffit

When building a ceiling soffit for a basement project can drywall be attached to the underside of the track? The soffit ladder is going to have a track attached to the ceiling joist, a track in the bottom (to clear the ducts) and the studs as rails in-between. With this setup the ceiling drywall wil...
