Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

I have to put together events and advertise for them or else I'd be on here entertaining you daily, Spruce!

And I'm groaning over here at how bad that dad joke was, Shannon.

Re: No flooring under old vanity

Inorite? You can't hardly see it. Yes, it is caulk. It will get done, I just got lazy after removing it from where it connected the side of the vanity. :)

Re: No flooring under old vanity

It'll do for now. The big ugly thing I pulled out of there was ridiculous, so I'm 30% happier. And I'm glad you can barely tell there's grout filler. The entire project start to finish cost something like $190, so I won't feel bad ripping the whole room apart in the next few years. :) Of course, the...

Re: No flooring under old vanity

I didn't listen to you, Spruce o.0, I have tile around the base and the two cutouts are filled with grout. I feel like I betrayed you and your wisdom.

Re: No flooring under old vanity

I just don't want to deal with cutting the tile that transitions to the hallway: IMG_20180518_100348.jpg Husband suggested attaching a board as a platform to the base of the vanity, up to those gable cutouts, and then just cover those with decorative things. I think it'll start to look too hack-job ...

Re: No flooring under old vanity

Nothing is installed yet, it's just temp fit to see what it looks like.

I have some spare tiles that were left, but that's last, last option. They've stapled some sort of metal mesh to the old floor and tiled over.

The tile cutout is the first vanity, the silicone is from the base of the second.

No flooring under old vanity

So, I'm halfway through fixing some sad happenings in our half bathroom (whose leaking sink valves started the whole main shut off valve thing). The old-old (original with the house) vanity was tiled around, and then a newer/bigger one was put in over that weird tile cutout (that vanity was so big t...

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

Not gonna lie, the quicktips post got skimmed as they were tldr at that moment, but you're giving quicktips for some valve type you're not recommending? Cheeky! Also, after basic Google research, I've decided that there are too many valve types and plumbing parts in this life. Yeah, I get kinda wor...

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

My house has gate valves both before and after my meter. Gate valves look very similar to the most common plunger-style valves, they are both multi-turn valves. But the inner guts of a gate valve are different. They're actually very reliable valves and are the style of valves used in large municipa...

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

The tips I posted were for traditional crank style valves, those that take multiple turns of the handle to actuate them. 1/4 turn valves use a ball and socket design, these simply turn 90* to actuate them so the above tips do not apply. They do not have issues with hardening seals, which is why the...

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

Okay, deal. 1/4 turn ball valve and follow Sprucey's quicktips. The plumber also says to do a secondary shut off after the metre since we don't have one. Is that just so they can work on the metre without the house draining or something? And I guess as a backup option if something happens to the fir...

Re: The Official Useless Post Thread

I switched our kitchen faucet and now the house's main water shut off valve suddenly leaks. I called a plumber who said to call the city for a street-level shut off test before he comes out. They came and tested. It failed. They said if the next available time for them to fix it is on the weekend th...

Ooo, I like that verb, ply: (ply someone with) provide someone with (food or drink) in a continuous or insistent way: a flight attendant who plied them with soft drinks. I just saw this and would like you to know that your knowledge is no good to me if it comes out in a garbled, drunken mess, so if...

What happened to the party plans where we all road trip somewhere? We should rent neighbouring cottages on a lake for a week and at night time we'll do bon fires where you answer all my questions after I ply you with alcohol.

We are having a blizzard right now! 15+ inches! Going to probably break the 1983 record snowfall in April. Everything is 3-4 weeks late this year, the farmers here are very pissed. You keep track of weather records? That's impressive. I hope it's warming up for you now. Ours is finally melting toda...
