Widening kitchen entryway

Post by Jacobcram1 » Mon Sep 05, 2016 1:03 pm

Hello! I'm currently working on widening a kitchen doorway in a 1904 house. 2nd level added in the 80's and when I remove paneling/drywall there are some 2x4 running vertically to frame door on left and cabinet built in on right. I want to remove the cabinet and double the entryway. What is the first step in figuring out if there are load bearing supports in this small area? Wall is center wall in original floor plan when there was no 2nd level.

What does the wall framing look like around the cabinet? It is possible that this area is already headed out due to the door and built-in cabinet. Open the wall to the side and above the cabinet/door area, and post a picture here.
