jacuzzi cribbing

Post by lynnb » Sat Oct 17, 2015 7:11 pm

Hi Shannon
There's a new jucuzzi bathtub going in. I was looking to make the cribbing for it so the tub sits on the top of the cribbing. For the top horizontal piece of 2x4 it will only fit under the lip of the tub with the 2x4 on edge. Should I maybe be using a 2x2 for top horizontal?

Also the rear of the tub against the wall should it be a 2x4 or what ever size attached to the wall or crib build along that side as well? If its wood attached to wall the lip of the tub won't go over the lip unless the wood is away from wall a bit.

As you can see there is 2-1/8" or less from outside edge to inside for crib top to sit in.

The other two photos show 2x4 on its edge and other on it side which obviously doesn't fit under the tub lip.
Thanks
Lynn

many tubs need the lip to sit on the wood blocking to support the tub edge. What do the instructions say. If you do not have manufactures instructions check online to see their website. I assume this tub has a removable skirt for the front, there should be instructions showing what is required behind it for framing/cribbing.

Ok Shannon apparently this is a drop in type tub that basicly drops into a square framing and is supported by the floor mostly and also the perimeter framing. It is meant for the lift around the tub to sit on the knee wall.

That sounds like what I was thinking. Generally the drop ins will be enclosed by the framing and the top of the framing is tiled as a finished surface, the tub then sits just a mm or so above that and is siliconed at the seam.
