Building code: window in bathroom

Post by Jfurnas » Tue Jul 03, 2018 7:01 pm

Hello. Is there anybody in Michigan who can tell me for sure if a window is required in a bathroom? I have been told no, but can't find any documentation to say either way.

Want to remove the two oddly positioned windows, and the one door leading to an old balcony when I remodel my bathroom.

I can not say for 100% sure , but I have never seen any code requiring a window in a bathroom and can not even think of any reason for such a code.

I was thinking maybe a fire code so somebody could escape if a fire were to start.

You are the man Shannon and I'll take your word for it :) by the way, great video tutorials. I've done a ton of home remodelling just off your videos.

Ya I’m sure there is not likely any code that says you must have windows in bathroom.

The only things I know of is this:

If there IS a window, then NO fan is required.

If there is NO window, then a fan IS required.

Please read that carefully.

Personally, I think a fan should be mandatory, regardless of having a window.

As for a code requiring a window in a bathroom, as you might guess from above, no, windows are not a code requirement.
