Powder room ventilation ?

I plan on adding a powder room in my basement by cutting a section of my garage which is attached to house.
Ideally I would like just a toilet and sink. Now location would have no exterior walls and ceiling is above upstairs kitchen. So not ideal.
So since window is out and installing a fan though doable will be a problem. I would have to run duct through 22 foot in garage to reach outdoors.
I know they sell ductless fans ...are they good ?
By law I am guessing I need a fan or window ?
Thanks again guys !

On a powder room you should not need to have a fan. The building codes are more concerned with venting moisture then odor so you should be fine.

Same here for Ontario building code, none of the main floor powder rooms have an exhaust fan.

Really does beg the question 'why do they call them fart fans'

Yes, you need either a fan OR a window for ventilation purposes.

Never heard of a ductless fan for a bathroom. "ductless" usually means it is simply a recirculator fan, so it's not ventilating anything. This is most commonly found on kitchen hood vents.

Because this is a powder room and not a full bath, the need for venting would be for odor purposes, not moisture, so you could probably get away with venting to the garage if you wanted to.

That would probably work ok. I would be worried about being able to source replacement filters over the long haul, though.

I would not vent to the garage, that will be against codes for sure, carbon monoxide could back draft through duct into house and that could be fatal. I really doubt you need anything but the only way to know for sure is asking at your local code office.
