What trowel & tile mortar

Post by guarddog » Mon Apr 01, 2019 2:39 pm

I posted a couple weeks back about fiberglass mesh tape... Still waiting on it from my online order, expecting it in the next few days.

This will be my first tile job. I am going to be using 12x12 tiles.

Can anyone suggest what type of tile mortar & trowel size I should be using?

I would like to stay within the Mapei family, since it is available locally to me.

Well I have never used those types of roll on water proofing products and I would have said a non modified thinnest but they seem to recommend a modified thinset in the directions.

Following the manufactures directions is the best bet.

As for trowel size I would start with a 1/4 x 3/8 x 1/4 ,if that is too much go down to the 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4. Be sure to back butter the tiles and get 90-100% coverage.
