How to cut something out of square?

Post by squall280 » Thu Aug 29, 2019 11:04 pm

How does one cut something out of square? Its bowed in one spot and not square at all. I am dying here trying to cut a piece of FRP paneling for the ceiling of a bathtub setup.

You have to create a square reference from which to measure from.

1 - Put a straight edge or string along back wall to see if it is reasonably straight.
2A - Assuming it's straight, use a framing square to draw a perpendicular line from the back wall to the face of the opening.
2B - Assuming it's NOT straight, use the string line or straight edge as your true line to draw the perpendicular line.
3A - Measure from the line to each side, noting your measurements, then transfer to your material to cut.
3B - If using the string line or straight edge as your true line, you can also measure from this line to contour the back edge to the wall. Another option would be to scribe a strip of masking paper along the wall to get the contour, then transfer this to your material.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

You may want to mark out and cut this from cardboard and make a template . You can then try the template and make corrections if needed before tracing the template out cutting the FRP panel.
