No window sill!

Post by blaubner » Sun Dec 22, 2019 6:53 pm

Took my half bath down to the studs and now I'm preparing to put up new drywall. The previous walls were built in the 60's, and constructed of blue board with a half inch of plaster. The finished walls were probably an inch thick. The window and door in the room had no wood trim, but a metal cap was installed where the walls terminated. The cap was installed first (it looks like) then blue board fastened, then plaster finished.

Now I'm getting ready to install 5/8 inch drywall. There is no depth to the window and hence no window sill. What do I install where the drywall terminates? I only see 1.25 inch corner beads at the stores. Won't that be too big?

Go to a drywall supplier and find yourself some edge metal or J-metal, named so for it's shape with slides over the end of the drywall and becomes your finished edge.
