return air

Post by greg1 » Sun Feb 04, 2018 10:17 am

Had my inspection on framing and it was conditionally approved. I was told by inspector to install a return air in my basement. In my understanding I dont need to use vent pipes for it and just use wall cavities and tie to return air chanel in furnace. Is that right?
Do you have a video on this Shannon?

Thank you

Yes that is how it is done usually , no I do not have a video.
If they want to inspect it before drywall then you can use thermo pan (foil covered cardboard) on each side of the stud bay attached to the studs (foil tape all joints) cut opening near the floor where you want return grill and also direct connection at the top to an existing duct system.

Here in the states, using open wall cavities isn't allowed for fire reasons. we run a 3x14 duct in the wall cavity.
