I'm trying to get as much head room as I can in my basement so I was hoping to remove the bottom board on my support beam to give me an extra 3/4". Any issues with removing it? I don't believe it is adding any major support to the beam. And also the sides. Can those be removed as well and the drywall directly attached the beam? Or should I leave them on there and attach the drywall to them. If I should leave them on there, I'd like to replace them since they would all have to be trimmed down because they aren't flush to the bottom of the beam.
It looks like the 1x is decorative in nature, which would mean that it could be removed without consequence. Drywall can be directly attached to the support beam, if the saddles over the posts are not mortised into the beam, you can simply notch the back of the drywall out to go over the saddles.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Thank you very much! Off they come!
