Removing frost before insulating

Post by gunslinger34 » Sun Nov 18, 2018 11:35 pm

I'm looking to insulate my basement but am getting a few spots of frost on the walls. Do I have to wait til spring to insulate or is there a good way to get rid.of the frost before starting to insulate? I imagine it wouldn't be advised.to insulate right over the frost?

Thanks.

You should have something as a moisture barrier against the wall before framing and insulating. Most common products used are poly, house wrap or 1" rigid foam. These products help separate frost that forms and other slight amounts of moisture from wetting the insulation.

So I can put up the rigid while the walls have frost on them?

Yes I would, unless you really want to wait until spring ? You can scrape off the excess or thaw it as you go and install away.
