Need advice for a closet door ideas

Hi. I am remodeling my bathroom and have this very small closet where I had a bi-fold doors for years but the problem with it was that when open they took out additional almost 3 inches of space in the door opening. The closet opening is 18x80. Are there any bi-fold doors that when open are less than an inch? What else can I do to with that opening?

Do you have room to have a sliding barn door style door on it? You could install a swinging door but it would require either resizing the opening or resizing the door. There are 18" doors but you need 20-1/2" to install it and the frame. Other options my be a curtain?

I may try a bi-fold option again but this time something made of a lighter weight. My old ones were so heavy made from MDF I think? I'll look around. Thanks

The only other option I can think of that Shannon didn't mention is an accordion door. Major problem with these is that they look super cheap and crappy, and I'm not sure it's going to give you what you want, which is more opening access, if I'm reading your post correctly.

Actually, a thought just occurred to me. Instead of installing a bifold door that folds to one side, what if you installed the doors separately on either side of the opening? You'd simply install pivot hardware on either side and delete the top track and hinges in the middle. While you won't gain any more opening access width, you won't have the doors in the way as much in the open position.

Ok, so I finally got my PVC bifold door and installed it.

They were on back-order for a month as I wanted a lighter, smaller and already white door. Unfortunately my walls are not that straight so using the string/weight method did not work for me to align top with bottom. I went with the wall itself to get the alignment.

I also went ahead and installed a small piece of moulding to cover the top gap up. I used 18 gauge air gun to nail it to the top wall.

I also went ahead and replaced all the shelving inside the closet and repainted the inside of the closet along with creating a small access door to the back of the Sharkbite connection of my new plumbing.

Again, thanks Spruce and Shannon for your help. My bathroom is almost ready, just waiting for a mirror I ordered a week ego. :D :D :D :D
