Basement framing under hvac bulkhead

Post by Jeremyq » Wed Nov 28, 2018 8:22 pm

Hey guys..how would I frame a wall under a basement bulkhead so that it is flush to the existing bulkhead when drywalled? How would I attach the top plate to the bulkhead. There's alot of height under it and I will be installing a door. Thanks

Is the bulkhead already drywalled, if so, I'd peel the drywall off, build the framing, then drywall everything in one shot, this will eliminate any irregularities when trying to tie new drywall into old, it will also make installing the framing easier because you will see exactly where to place it. If you choose not to pull the drywall, then you will hold the framing back the thickness of the drywall you intend to use from the face of the bulkhead.

If the bulkhead does not have drywall, then your wall framing will be flush with the face of the bulkhead framing.
