3x 14/2 and 1x CAT6 cables through concrete.

Post by TomK » Sun Dec 23, 2018 8:56 pm

Hey Guy's,

To get 3x Power ( 3x 14/2 ) wires and 1x CAT6 through a concrete wall, what is the best option? The wall is between two warm spaces.

1) One hole: All 4 cables go through this. Do I need something like a DB2 Conduit or other piping before I thread the cable through the concrete wall?

2) Separate hole: 1/4 inch hole for each cable?

Cheers,
TK

Two separate holes. Keep data and electrical wires separated from each other by about 12' when ever possible to help prevent interference .
You really do not need to sleeve the hole in the concrete but it will not hurt anything either.

Use Shielded Cat6 and it should be more than okay.

DB2 would be overkill. Just a section of PVC would be a good idea thou.

Always best to have 2 holes. One for power, and one for data.

I'd sleeve the holes for sure. You don't want the rough concrete possibly abrading the sheating of the cables. Two holes, one each for data and power.

Fill any extra gaps in the sleeved holes with firestop putty or caulk.
