Insulation in the basement

Post by kabe0 » Sun Jan 20, 2019 8:56 pm

Hi,

I have been removing existing basement framing in order to build a new wall, and have to now deal with some of the insulation that was installed down their. There is loose insulation touching concrete which I recall being a bad idea. Should I remove this insulation? It's all around the basement.

Yes batt insulation should not be in direct contact with concrete walls. You will need to remove it. There are a couple of ways to redo this . You can install a moisture barrier against the concrete then reframe and insulate or install rigid foam against the concrete and reframe and insulate the wall. I have videos for all of those situations.
