Structural Question

Post by rchesterton » Sat Mar 23, 2019 1:28 pm

I am running a 3 inch PVC pipe as a riser from my basement up to my second floor. You can see in this picture that there’s an addition behind the wall that they riser is going to be going up into. There used to be two entrances into this addition and the previous owners removed one of them. They left the existing header in there and just framed out the wall. My question is, since there is studs is there any structural necessity for the header or can I proceed and Cut a 3 1/2 inch gap in there for my pipe? Should I reinforce with additional studs?

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
