door problem

Post by mark13 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 8:05 pm

I have a problem with my front door closing. The door is not sagging,is on level , gaps are OK but not closing freely. It fills a tension when closing. I don't know where is the problem.

Hinges are binding as the door gets close to closed is my bet. If you have long screws in hinges going into framing try loosening them and even adding a bit of a shim to push pin edge of hinge towards the door slightly.

Weather strip could be too tight as well, start with the hinges though. If playing with the screws doesn't help, add a shim to the pin side of the hinges so that the door is rotated more to the closed position. It will be a delicate balance between just enough shim to do the job and adding too much, so add little bits at a time. A cereal box or file folder is an excellent shim stock.
