Vapor barrier

Post by WillLee » Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:30 pm

Hi there,

I have used tons of info in this site and from videos and I've managed to frame my basement, walls and soffits. I haven't done my ceiling strapping because I was wondering whether it would make sense to put on the vapour barrier first? I want the vapor barrier to go up into the joists and the ceiling strapping would get in the way of a continuous vapour barrier that goes floor to top of joists.

Also, I'm afraid I made a mistake not putting some vapor barrier on the basement walls where the soffit crossbeams meet the wall. Do I need to correct this by cutting all the nails and trying to slip my vapor barrier between the wall and soffit?

I've attached photos.

Ya get your vapour barrier on before ceiling strapping and preferably before that soffit framing. If its not to much problem I would remove the soffit plate and slip in the poly. If its to much of a PITA then seal the poly to that board on the top and bottom to make a good seal.
Also in that second picture the insulation needs tone tight to the top plate.

Thanks Shannon! I've watched your vapor barrier video on YouTube and was wondering if you have one that explains how to vapor barrier the rim joists?

I just did a search of the forum and found that you did answer the question previously and used this photo.
