Vinyl flooring around raised hearth

Post by Vic » Tue Aug 20, 2019 12:41 pm

I am going to install floating vinyl plank flooring in a basement rec room. There is a fireplace with a raised hearth in the room. How would you install the flooring around the hearth? I don't want to leave a gap around the hearth as I won't be installing baseboard here. Is it ok to butt the flooring tight to the hearth?

Butting it tight will not allow it to “float”. If you don’t want a baseboard or quarter round or any other type of trim on the hearth then you need to install a track and nose type trim up against the hearth. The track is fastened to floor in proper position , flooring is installed with space away from the track and then a trim is snapped into the track. Go to a flooring shop to see what is available to fit your flooring thickness and colour.
