Straps at top of stairs with LVP install

Post by Swood » Mon Sep 16, 2019 7:28 am

Hey everyone. I am installing some LVP on my second floor and I have run into a snag.

There are straps at the top of the stairs, that I assume are tied to the bottom side of the stringers, that stick up too tall to put down the flooring. I also assume that they are structural and can't simply be removed.

Can I pull the drywall from the back of the stairs and attach the stringers with some type of bracket?

I am just a DIYer so I would love for my assumptions to be wrong. Or any advice on how to get my flooring down.

I have not seen that done but its a real good idea. I would remove one at a time and chisel out the plywood enough that they could be re installed flush and the flooring could go over them.
