Beam Install

Post by dzaazter » Tue Sep 17, 2019 11:25 am

I'm wanting to take down some load bearing walls in my kitchen. I have 3 4x4 load bearing posts that support the roof, but on 2 different planes (e.g. x,y). If I use a big enough 30ft LVL beam to span across one plane, can you side load off that beam to support 1 4x4 post? Or would I have to run 2 parallel 30ft beams to remove the load bearing posts?

Sounds like a question for a structural engineer who will be able to calculate the loads and spans and figure out the size and type of beams you'll need.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

There is a possibility of doing what you want but you will need to have an engineer design this for you.
