Steel door sweep

Post by lynnb » Thu Oct 03, 2019 1:30 pm

I have a steel door that I have to change the bottom door sweep every couple years because the rubber lets go. The door frame also has the magnetic weatherstrip kinda like what you replace in your youtube video. To the question , on the door sweep should I be notching the ends where the magnetic weatherstrip comes in contact or should I leave it without trimming ?
Thanks
Lynn

Here’s the door and sweep. You can see where the magnetic strip gets compressed and doesn’t contact door.

Since the magnetic strip is already deformed, I'd leave the sweep long. If you're going to replace the magnetic strip, then cut the sweep so that it just misses the magnet.

If you cut the sweep, you only remove the part that is on the face of the door, it still needs to extend to the door edge along the bottom.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
