Couple of drywall questions.

About to drywall the basement here, and have a couple of questions.

Got the drywall in, and it says its 1/2 x 4 x 8 but when I measure, it sure doesn't look like half inch sheetrock. Am I missing something?

Also there is a corner of the basement that the foundation sticks out on, is there an easy way to drywall around this where it will be a flat even wall?

Thanks.

You're measuring the beveled edge, which is why your not measuring a full 1/2". Move to the middle of the end where the drywall has been cut, you'll have your 1/2".

To deal with the foundation wall, you'll have to fur out the framing at least flush with the foundation so that the drywall will plane over it. You can use a couple dobs of adhesive to hold the drywall over the concrete. The other option is to extend the framing furring down to the floor then you just screw the drywall in place.

You were exactly right on the drywall.

Thanks a ton for your response.

Since you are using paper backed insulation I will assume that meets code in your area and you are maybe in a warmer climate? In my area you could never use that insulation as we require a poly vapour barrier and also we could not drywall right against that bare concrete as we would get moisture build up back there which would eventually end up meaning mould growing on the drywall.
At minimum here we would need to fur that wall out and insulate it like any other wall.
