Spray foam over water pipes

Post by iknowaguy » Thu Nov 21, 2019 6:49 pm

I am in the process of finishing a basement bathroom remodel where I have hot and cold supply lines that feed the bathroom in a 2x4 stud wall that is tight up the poured foundation wall. My initial plan is to spray foam the entire water pipes and all up the entire wall into the rim joist bay. But now I am second-guessing my decision. Any issues spray foaming over the water pipes? Would the foam keep the pipes from expanding and contracting, etc?

The foam should not hurt the pipes at all. I would be temped not to burry the pipes but keep the warm side exposed so heat from inside the home can keep them from freezing . If you can get a couple inches behind them you should be fine.
