counterweight/pulley system for rasing and lowering a bed

Post by DavidShine » Sun Dec 01, 2019 4:25 pm

Hello All,

I have been searching now for a couple of days on how to build
a counterweight/pulley system to easily raise and lower my bed
from/to the ceiling. I am not having very much luck and want to
know if anyone has any ideas as to where i could find this information
either in a book or on a website or maybe a better place to ask. Your
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can’t say for sure where to look but I’m sure there would be something on the web.
Basically cable/pulleys and a weight system but everything’s gotta be designed to hold the weight when the bed is in use and secured into structure above well enough. Should not be too bad once you have the basic stuff to figure out how much weight is needed.

You may consider a Murphy bed system? You get everything you need in a kit.

Yeah I've pretty much spent the last two days looking on the internet and couldn't find anything except a lot of people always telling me to look into a Murphy bed which is definitely not what I want. Thanks for the reply though and if you find a good place to look please let me know.

Yeah you'll probably just have to be creative and fabricate something yourself with steel cables, pulleys, and weights.

The physics are pretty straightforward I think, you'd just need to figure out the logistics of where all the pulleys and weights would be housed in the room.

If you pull it off (!), it would be an awesome achievement that I'd be curious to see if you followed up here with pics.
