Vapor Barrior Question

Post by kbucky » Fri Jan 10, 2020 1:09 pm

I am struggling a bit on how to combine two areas and insulation together. I have a 3/4 wall that I put XPS insulation behind. The top 1/4 of the wall was already framed by the builders and it has fiberglass insulation and a vapor barrier on it.

I put the 3/4 wall to the ledge of the concrete. Do I just add more plastic vapor barrier from the existing framed wall over the top of the ledge and tape? Or how do I merge their insulation and plastic vapor barrier to my rigid foam insulation on the bottom part of the wall?

Yes that is the easiest way. Don’t forget to insulate the framed wall first.

Do I need to insulate the top of the concrete ledge?

Yes I would put a piece of 2” foam across it and seal it with spray foam. Then drywall right over it.
