New exterior door

Post by greg1 » Tue Jul 03, 2018 10:13 am

I just replaced my 60 yo exterior door at the back of the house. The house has a double drywall on both sides, the old door jamb was custom and was made to fit in the door opening. Now that I put the new door in, I made it flush with the inside wall, but the outside of the door jamb has about 1.5" difference from the wall. Also there was a storm door installed before. Now Im trying to make it all look nice and also put the storm door back in place. Any recommendations on how I can approach this? I was thinking of doing the custom door jamb extension for my screen door.

Also, later, maybe next year I was planning on doing stucco re-float of my whole exterior of the house. So that will probably will add some more to the thickness of the wall.

Here are some pics.

Thank you!

Add jamb extensions to bring the door frame out flush with the highest surface, install trim, install screen door.

Most screens that I've installed do mount flush on the trim. I would recommend purchasing your screen before you build out the door and trim, that way you can build it out accordingly.

I agree 100% with the jamb extension. I had to do similar to mine, except I scribed a PT 2x4 and stuck it between the jamb and outside trim.
