Basement window

Post by steve-1987 » Fri Aug 23, 2019 12:33 pm

Hi guy's, I bought a house and the windows in the basement are in bad shape. I have a block fondation the windows are wood, the dimension from the wood are aproximatly 44 X 21. I don't want to spend crazy money on exact fit. what a found as close was 35 X 17 X 2 1/2.

I could close off the extra with cinder block or solid block to fit the new one. do you have a better Idea

And since the block fondation is 8'' and the windows only 2 1/2 what kind of jamb should I do?

In all honesty if you factor in the extra fussing around and materials you need to reduce the sizes it is likely not much difference to order the proper sizes. Also consider if these will be bedrooms they need to meet code for proper egress size and type

unfortunately I have a 10ft block fondation and the ground around the house is at lease 8ft so can't do bedroom in this area. I would have to dig 3ft plus to have proper.
