Exterior Stone Help!

Post by bs229706 » Mon Sep 16, 2019 1:58 pm

I wanted to ask the community what specific kind of stone is on my exterior and best suggestions on updating it. Can you paint it? Will it need fully torn off and replaced to not appear so 1950s? Exterior is stone/stucco.

Thanks in advance for any information!

That stone should just be fascia stone, which means it can be removed without harm to the structure. I would leave it as a wainscot and either stucco or side the removed portion to match the rest of the house. The section where it is at wainscot level looks ok, though it may be a little bit high, which throws out the proportion and overall aethetics of it. Try photoshopping the wainscot lower as well as the full facade down to the same wainscot level and see what you think of that look.

Personally, I don't think that painted stone or brick looks good, ever, and it's not going to "update" the look at all.
