Bulbs on chandelier dark after only a few hours

Post by Spam Jelly » Fri Dec 14, 2018 5:08 pm

Hi,

Had a chandelier installed in the spot where a ceiling fan used to be. No dimmer on switch. 60 W bulbs, new, which are the max allowed on the chandelier. After about 5 hours use, some of the bulbs have become black. What gives? These are regular, incandescent, non-LED bulbs...

I see these types of chandelier bulbs black all the time but never knew why or how soon they do it? I'm really not sure ,lets see what the other guys think.

My best guess is they're crappy bulbs, honestly.

My first thought as well, Aaron.

OP, if you really want incandescent, I'd go with 40W. I'd highly recommend LEDs for this though.... They last much longer, and it doesn't look easy to get up there to replace them !!

Why 40W over 60W? We had 40W in our dining room and they weren’t bright enough. LEDs are amazing, but they have a white plastic base which looks corny on a chandelier.

Got these bulbs from Home Depot. Maybe that’s the problem right there...

Return those bulbs to Home Depot. Get a refund and go with a different brand, maybe from a different store if you have to.

I think you just got some bulbs from a defective batch.

60 or 40, it's up to you.
