Remove light housing

Post by Yangd23 » Sat Dec 15, 2018 1:32 am

Hi Shannon,

I want to remove this old light housing, and replace with new recessed light with integrated junction box. But the old housing is hard to remove by pulling and twisting, as attached

. No obvious clips were observed. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

That fixture box is bolted to a joist above your ceiling's drywall. So the only way to remove it is to cut out drywall around the box so you can access the screws that bolt the box to the joist.

Then, depending on the size of the surface-mounted light you plan to install, you may need to patch the drywall to hold the light.

Yes, there is a screw there. I lose it and removed the housing.

Thanks
