ceiling lights with two white wires only

Post by janaya44 » Wed Nov 06, 2019 11:25 am

Hi,
I have bought a ceiling light fixture with two white wires and no ground wire and no black wires. the wire in the ceiling has a ground wire, a white wire, and a black wire. How do I know which wire to connect to the hot wire(black wire)?

It most likely doesn't matter. Just connect the two white wires each to the white and black in the fixture box. Polarity doesn't matter.

If your ceiling fixture box is metal, and grounded to the ground lead, then ground continuity should transfer to the fixture through its mounting screws.

I want to clarify what Aaron said , connect one white wire in the light to the white in ceiling and the other white wire in the light to the black in ceiling.
