Have you explained to her that it's now your duty to reflect to her how she was to you as a kid/teen??

Obviously, you two have never been around kids! There is a kids "game" called the floor is lava, in which you have to move around the room WITHOUT touching the floor, 'cuz it's lava and you die! As you can imagine, it involves a lot of jumping around on furniture and what not so as not to touch the floor.

I'm thinking Dia could mop up this mess. Or more specifically, direct the cleanup.

She made her appearance relatively recently so she's not due to show up for a little while.

Yeah, you know you're getting old when you make 60's and 70's era references and the derned young'ns just don't get it. But then, who'd a thought you people wouldn't have known about Lava Floor! Maybe you boys just don't have the street experience that Nutzy and I do?

I'm sure I played "lava floor" when I was a kid but I don't remember the name of it, or if there even was a name for it, or if the "danger" was lava or perhaps a bottomless pit.

So I don't know who Barbara Eden is/was, but all this talk of genies and 60s television was enough context for me to guess what popular television sitcom she starred in, with its iconic theme music.

Duh da, da-da-da-da-da, da duh!

Oh, for the time when television was for entertainment purposes and not the made up drama and BS of today's society. <sigh>

There is just an insane amount of TV choices out there, ya old curmudgeon. If there isn't anything modern that resembles the lighthearded I Dream of Jeannie or Bewitched (which there almost certainly should be), you can easily stream those oldies! The beautiful thing is people have easy and cheap access to everything now, including old classics.

My fav from that era ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ankXUaWqQgM

There's something to be said as well when you actually have to 'wait' till a show is aired.
No binge watching ... In front of the TV too long and Dad would come by and ask if you need your a$$ tanned

Do your chores/work/homework, finish in time for supper ... eat all together at the table and actually talk to each other, then get ready for whatever show came on at 8pm.

My grandson actually mentioned it to me recently ... He said 'how come with you and Oma, we always have to sit at the table'

I told him why, and he seems to like it !

Yeah I think you could be right. One probably appreciated a show more as it took time between episodes for your mind to absorb it and let it sink in.

But commercials always sucked. I always hated them interrupting my show.

We ate dinner in the living room, generally, with the 6:00 local news and the 6:30 national news.

I never got to watch The Simpsons, which bugged me.

I grew up with a 15" color TV in the living room, and that TV was later replaced with a 13" Sony.

In the kitchen nook where we had breakfast was like a 10" B&W tv.

To think color TVs were north if $500 in the 1980s and 90s, and that was like for a 20-30", and damn near took two people to lift it.

Now LCD flat screens weigh nothing and cost like $300 for a 55 inch. It's just crazy.

Whoa! Whoa!! Hold on there, Buckeroo! What's this "color tv" thing you're talking about?!?!?! You all hopped up on Tab soda again? Next thing you be trying to tell us is that you had more than 4 channels to watch, or that you didn't have to git up off the couch to change the channel.

I tell ya, kids these days, tell'n stories . . . Should be ashamed of themselves.

Loved Get Smart and much later Police Squad with Leslie Neilson, which spawned the Naked Gun movie trilogy. Speaking of movies, Get Smart was brought to the big screen not too many years ago, Steve Carrel played the part of Max.

You also had Mission Impossible if you wanted something a little more meaty. Adam12 was ok, I liked Emergency better.

In the late seventies we had a B/W tv in living room. 3 channels (one was french so that does not count) by the mid or late 80s we had that BW tv and 1 colour tv and had 4 channels (one was french) and we rented VCRs and movies if we wanted to watch movies on the weekends.
Wow how expensive were VCRS if you had to rent them ( our closest city had at least half a dozen rental places) so I know we were not the only ones that did not own our own?)
I remember the old BETA VCRs in the school, if that thing fell on ya you were a goner! LOL

Yup, I grew up with a B&W as well, wasn't until the really late 70's that we finally got a color tv. Didn't have a vcr until the late 80's. We had 4 channels, NBC, CBS, ABC, and National Public Television. Depended on which direction the wind was blowing which one we could receive. To be fair, we lived out in the sticks, in a valley, so reception was never great, and being on a farm, we had much better things to be doing than watching tv.

We'd eat dinner at the table, tv off. This predates cellphones, so we didn't have that intrusion, just an old dial-up landline that wasn't answered during dinner. Didn't even have an answering machine back then, if you didn't pick it up, you didn't know who called. Oh, and the best part is that it was a party line - we shared it with a other house down the road.

I remember when we got our first colour TV. My dad got a good deal on a used 26".
It was a TV to us, some would call it furniture

It actually had really good sound. It had speakers in it like the old stereos did ... built into the cabinet it was in.

Every now and then I remember the TV repairman coming in to fix it.
$1.95 for a tube
$34.95 service call/labour

My Dad would freak out on the bill

Ah the old console TVs. I never grew up with one of those, and when I was a teen I thought they looked hideous. Funny thing is I *love* the old late model Sony console TVs now... They just look so vintage 80s and remind me of being a kid. Look at this beaut:

This was the Sony TV in the movie Poltergeist. Bet it was a $1000+ at the time. Adjusted for inflation that would be like spending $2600 on a TV today! Some people still drop that amount of cash on fancy TVs though.
