Vanity question

Post by greg1 » Wed Sep 19, 2018 12:46 pm

Possibly dumb question but I have to ask.

I have older house with some of those 2x8 stud walls as support for upstairs. Now they do steel support beams, but in my house there are four walls that are in the basement and that what holds the upstairs floor. So in my case those walls were kinda dictating the layout of the living space.

I need to place a vanity and was thinking of buying one of those that attach to the wall. I'm guessing its ok to attach to that load bearing walls? I cant see the integrity of that wall being compromised if I hang that floating vanity on it...is it ok to do so?

I would agree, no harm will come from hanging your vanity on this wall. The vanity itself, nor the fasteners are of a size that could possibly compromise a 2x8. Probably not necessary, but certainly a better way to go would be to put blocking in the wall and attach the vanity to that instead of directly to the stud.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
