I will need to run a 1/2 inch copper line to the area where my clothes dryer will eventually be moved to. Will I need a special back flow type valve or something similar, attached to the line before the gas valve is attached to the line?
Or will all I need is the gas shut off valve?
Running natural gas line for a dryer
Re: Running natural gas line for a dryer
I am not aware of any requirements other than a gas valve

You would usually have an iron shut off valve in that line near where it T s off from main line I believe. But I could be mistaken. I generally leave gas lines to the pros.

Okay, thank you to each of you!
Re: Running natural gas line for a dryer
In these parts, you have the main shut off at the meter, then a valve at each point of use. The only safety device in the whole system is a flame suppressor at the meter. Propane systems are the same configuration.
When you do work to the system, repairs or additions, you have to pressure test them, which involves installing a pressure gauge where the gas enters the house and putting 15psi on it. The pressure has to hold for 24 hours to pass inspection. Actual line pressure of natural gas is less than 5psi, which is why the test pressure isn't all that high. Again, verify this with your building permit office, as regional and municipal requirements can differ depending on where you live.

It's not recommended for non-professionals (DIY'ers) to work on gas piping; it's quite dangerous and gas leaks can lead to explosions.
