Hot water tank - still discolored water after flushing

Post by mfredericks » Mon Sep 22, 2014 9:18 am

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on discolored water coming from a standard electric hot water tank.
A couple months ago we noticed the hot water had a yellow/brown color to it, so we flushed and drained the tank, 2 or 3 times. This seemed to help clear the hot water for a while, but the problem is back and the hot water is discolored again.

Is there something more I can do to clean the inside of the tank? flushing it with cold water and draining it several times only seemed to be a temporary fix.
Thanks for any help!

If discoloured water is not coming from your cold taps at the sinks in your home and only coming from the hot water tank and you have flushed it previously only to find the problem has re-occured... then I would say the lining of your water tank is starting to corrode and rust and it may only be a matter of time until you have a leak.
I think its time to have a new tank installed or do it yourself.
