Washer drain overflows inside the wall.

Post by pbr27tay » Sun Feb 22, 2015 8:23 pm

I snaked the washer drain and got very little out. I snaked the shower drain (because it drained slow) 36 feet away from washer drain and got a lot. Could shower drain back up washer drain? The washer drain is cast iron pipe and it leaks where the attachment where washer hose fits into cast iron pipe inside the wall. Any suggestions.

It could if they are on the same branch line but not very likely as the washer drain line should be mounted much higher than the shower drain so you would think the shower drain would show signs of backing up first. If your washer drain has an actual fitted connection then I would say maybe the cast pipe has developed a crack or hole but most of these drain hoses are just "dumping " into an open pipe so maybe you are getting some splash back? Not really sure.
