Anode rod replacement question

Post by MarkM » Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:37 pm

Hi, I enjoyed the video on the anode rod replacement. I had a question... when looking for replacement, are they all generic? Or will any Anode rod fit any water heater (besides the length issue that was addressed in the video)?

Also, does it matter if it is aluminum or magnesium, or any other alloy?

I think they're all pretty much all the same. They use a very large socket driver, like 1 1/6" diameter I think. You need to use a breaker bar to loosen the old one, they are usually VERY tight.
