Pressure relief valve hot to touch

Post by Josh » Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:38 pm

I just replaced the pressure relief valve on my Reliance water heater. The pressure relief valve is not leaking, but it is pretty warm. I didn't notice this with the old pressure release, though I rarely if ever came into contact with the old one unless there was an issue.

Is this normal, or should I be concerned? The water temp is set to slightly above the warm setting I'd that makes a difference.

Thanks.

The other end of that TPR valve is in direct contact with the hot water, so yes, it's going to be warmer than ambient temp.

That's what I figured, it just seemed unusually warm and i wanted to check.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
