Grit for Emery Cloth

Post by Rocket Rider » Sun Jun 23, 2019 8:17 am

When preparing copper pipe for use before soldering, I know emery cloth is recommended, but what size grit?
I've seen various designations like 320, 180, 80 and 120. What would be best?
Thanks, Shannon and subs. RR

I just buy whatever is on the shelf in the plumbing department, probably 100 or 120 if I had to guess.

Ya I'm not sure I have ever even really paid attention to the grit? its right in that section and that's what I grab. seems to me 80 would be pretty harsh and 320 would pretty fine
