Hi,

My gas heater was recently replaced by plumber due to leaking. He installed check pressure valve as recommended by manufacturer (74 gallon AO Smith with 10 year warranty). Right after installation every time water is used in any part of the house there is loud banging noise heard every time. The plumber thinks it is due to check pressure valve and recommends to have it removed. He thinks we have high water pressure in our home.

Do you have any recommendations to get rid of this noise?

will highly appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

Naheed

I would suspect he could be right. If it is not required by the water heater manufacture then it cant hurt to try with out it.

Thanks so much for your response.

Check pressure valve is required by the manufacturer for the warranty. Is there any other way to deal with this noise?

Sincerely,

Naheed

could you remove it temp. just to see if that is the issue? If you find it is the problem maybe there are other types that would not cause this noise?

Testing it out by removing it temporarily does sound like a good idea. At least that way you can be sure of the cause for the noise. If it turns out that it's the cause, but you're still required to have the valve, you may consider a water hammer arrestor. They make both regular and shark bite varieties for easy installation. I installed one for a loud banging noise in the pipes whenever my sprinkler system would switch from one zone to another. Sure enough, after installing the water hammer arrestor, the banging went completely away (I can still hear the shifting of the valves, but it no longer bangs).
