Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Doing a cheap bathroom reno and I want to rotate my toilet 90 degrees and maybe push it back a few inches. I've seen some flange extenders but curious how difficult it is. Thank you
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Unless you absolutely have to move the toilet, I would not recommend doing so, it's a lot of work. You could probably rotate the flange, some flanges have alternate toilet bolt locations, some flanges are movable, best case scenario is you install a new flange that doesn't require replacement of the pipe, an overlay, if you will.

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
It’s not likey you could simply rotate the toilet 90degrees without actually moving it way from the wall as well. Most flanges will be set to either 10” or 12” to centre from the wall.
As Spruce said it my not be to easy to reroute the pipe but if you have good access below it could be doable for sure

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
I believe that if you have 3” pipe then you can be up to 5’ from the main stack?
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
I've seen some offset flanges that I think are designed to fudge a toilet waste pipe like an inch or two, but they're probably more designed to be used during a construction phase. To retrofit one of those you'd need to trim the waste pipe to just the right height so that it can couple with the pipe and be the correct height, then you'd glue it on... but before you could do that, you'd need to cut out subfloor to accommodate its fit, and then patch the gaps left behind from the previous flange.
No, toilets are pretty much fixed in place--moving them is a serious matter of replumbing that 3" waste line, redoing the floor, etc. Probably not worth it unless you are doing a very serious bathroom reno.

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Thanks guys. The reason I want to rotate it possibly is because I'd like to put a new vanity on the far wall and a linen closet yo the left of that jut out (it's the main vent for plumbing) I have about 2 feet to the left of the toilet would it look weird to leave the toilet where it is and have the vanity parallel to it?

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
You need a 30" to 36" width for the toilet itself and another 30" in front of it, at minimum, or else using the toilet is extremely claustrophobic. Other than that, if the layout you propose works, go for it.

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
yup that is a good video for the basics of this type of change. I have never seen a toilet with a 14" off set like in this video. this may work for you?
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Sorry I don't understand the 14' offset?
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Most toilets have the pipe centred at either 12" or 10" off the wall to centre of pipe. In this video they installed one that measured 14". I can't tell from your picture but it looks like your toilet is a fair ways from the wall that would be behind it after it is rotated 90 degrees? I was not sure if a 14" off set would get your toilet to sit back against the wall after rotating?
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Ok gotcha...it would be away from the wall a bit but that's actually a good thing in this case. I plan on building a shelf at the back with a linen closet above
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Should work then.
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Next question...after I rotate the toilet as discussed I want to put a washer dryer combo in the bathroom under the vanity counter with a vessel sink above centered on the counter. The cabinet will be 30" wide and washer is 24 allowing for space beside it for detergent etc. Question is...how would I plumb this? Thanks guys
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
Something like this but water sources not coming from the wall but from under the counter

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
does this unit come with water and drain hoses? Do you have existing plumbing to work with here?
What is recommended in instructions for water supply and drain sizes?

Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
I haven't found the unit yet but they do come with water and drain hoses. Currently there is plumbing for a sink with a cheater vent
Re: Rotate toilet 90 degrees
I don't know the exact specs on these units but traditional washers put out a lot of water quickly when draining, hopefully a cheater vent can keep up? I'm sure its doable, there seems to be many pictures representing exactly what you want to do. I would hope you could maybe install a traditional washer bib into the wall behind the unit and plumb it to the existing plumbing you have for the sink? Sorry but i do not know much about these. Maybe you can find installation instructions on line for the unit you are thinking about for some insight?
